Guide to hiking Mount Suku, Cameron Highland

Hello, I have yet to finish my Rome post but I feel the need to blog about my hike at Mount Suku 1st before it vanishes from my mind again. Hahah

Just got back from our trip today. Feeling the legs sore so bad atm. I haven hiked or exercised for a while now, I knew the pain was unavoidable the moment I started my hike yesterday. Hahah

Anyway, we choose to do our hike on the Eve of Christmas, was a bad idea.. Bad bad idea to go to Cameron Highland at this time of the year. Long weekends, year end holiday and people clearing their leaves.. We took 2 hours just to get through 17KM. 2 freaking hours..
Anyway, all those aside.. Am here to speak about my overall experience.

We left KL at appx 4.30am, stopped at Tapah for a good o breakfast before departing again. Arrived at Mount Suku kaki bukit at 8am but it was tough to find the start point because there weren't any signboard and the weed were growing out of control therefore, there was no clear indication as to where was the start point.
We wazed to Gunung Suku and found it relatively weird that we were brought to the middle of the highway up Cameron..

Started panicking but someone mentioned that they read someone posted something about using the gps coordinate to nagivate and that was how we found the starting point.

The signboard of the gps coordinate is very very small but do pay close attention to this:

The parking area is directly across the starting point. Just before I proceed, wanted to mentioned that I read on a few blogs that states that you need a permit to hike all the mountains in Pahang, not very sure if the info is exactly accurate but when we arrived, there was no ranger or any sort of booth in sight. Also, there is no need to engage a 4 wheel drive to chauffeur you there, just type in the coordinate and park at the open space at your own risk. LOL

Starting point is opposite of where we park out car.

Before i forget, if you are coming from Simpang Pulai, the parking space is on your left and the start point of your hike is on your right.

Small parking area but our cars were the only ones there.

After gearing up, we started our journey up up up..

When i was going through my read up, i noticed that the start point was supposed to be an open empty space but when we were there, there were tall unkept weed all over, just a tiny path that brings you in. I believe this isn't a common mountain ppl would choose to hike. We wanted to go for Irau but it was closed apparently. No luck this round.

Pic won't be able to justify how steep this mountain is.

Read that the hike was all just ascending, thought people were just joking but nope.. From the start till the end, 99% of the hike was all ascending.. Was tough on the heart but my biggest worry then was how are we gonna descend? Hahah

There were lotsa tree roots the entire way up, as we ascend, we felt the air started getting a bit colder, wind a bit stronger, ground were getting more and more moist and there were lotsa water droplets on leaves and trees.
After the 1500M mark, we knew we were getting started on the mossy forest trail already. Tree barks were covered with fresh green mosses.. The ground was also a lot softer, felt like we would sink in whenever we step on it.. So so bouncy..

Pay close attention to the mossy ground. :)

Saw lotsa unusual looking things that we wouldn't usually catch at a normal sea level hike.

We started off with our hike at a very fast pace, came in a bunch of 8 but 3 of us was much much ahead. Hahah.. But after the 1500M mark, we slowed down so much, basically every corner along the way we stopped to take pictures.. Cliff caught up with us, so we had the chance to get some shots on his gopro.. Heheh

Every corner of the most forest was picturesque. Pics can't justify how beautiful this place was. :)
Agnes was like eh this area damn nice.. Take pics... Then after spending 5 mins there, we started on our journey again and not even 30seconds into it she spot another nice corner. HAHAHAH

We arrived at the false peak at around 11.20am.. Spent about 20 mins there taking pictures and video before going up to the final peak.

Arrived at the final peak at 12pm.. We took about 3 and half hour because we stopped so freaking much. Body has already cooled down even before we arrived at the peak.

Spent about 30 mins at the peak waiting for the remaining of our friends to arrive but to no avail. We started descending at 12.36PM. The descend was excruciating, kept slipping. Was so worried for falling face first. Every steps taken were extra cautious, took us about 2 hours to get down. Felt like a never-ending journey down. HAHAH.

Felt so relief when we heard car sounds getting nearer. Overall experience was great, can't wait for Gunung Irau to reopen after the monsoon season to make my visit.

If you are worried that you might go missing, you do not need too. The trail are very open, though no hikers in sight on the 24th of Dec 2017 but we had no problem knowing with trail to keep too to get to the peak. :)

Signing off,
Samantha Tew
