The supplement that she prescribed looks like this.
She didn't had to tell me what it was for me to guess that it was Fish Oil. My mum has constantly emphasize that fish oil is good but at such young age, i always think why would I want to waste money on supplement now. I will start consuming when i get older la.
Well, since doctor prescribed, I did my research on why human body need fish oil even if you are consuming fish on a weekly basis.
What is Fish Oil?
Fish oil is a form of fatty acid that is derived from the tissues of oily fish. It contains the omega-3 fatty acids, including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). It has been scientifically proven that those two elements are very important.
Many people are also not aware that cooked fishes contain mercury these days due to water pollutant, consuming too much fish directly allows your body to accumulate mercury which would cause certain vital health issue in the later stage. So another alternative to getting the sufficient amount of fish oil is through the capsules.
1. Help with Heart Problems
- Some people use fish oil to lower blood pressure or triglyceride levels (fats related to cholesterol). Fish oil has also been tried for preventing heart disease or stroke.
2. Good for the bones
- Women has higher chances of osteoporosis as we age because our body no longer produces certain hormones. The best way to support your overall bone health is to make sure you're getting enough calcium in your diet regularly. After that's been looked after, it would be a very smart move to start paying attention to your fish-oil consumption.
3. Women's care- Women sometimes take fish oil to prevent painful periods; breast pain; and complications associated with pregnancy such as miscarriage, high blood pressure late in pregnancy, and early delivery.
I have started consuming fish oil recently, i believe that people are never too young to start on supplements because of the food we consume these days.
Signing off,
