Today marks the 3rd day of our visit to Hong Kong, it also marks the last day of our free MTR ride. Being the kiasu Chinese, must utilise the Express Card kao kao!
So, where is the best place to go? The furthest recorded being Tung Chung.
What is there to do in Tung Chung? Ngong Ping Cable Car to see Tian Tan Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery
Initially, we didn't want to go to Ngong Ping already one cause the cable car ride was pretty expensive and the 3rd day plan was to take a ferry to Macau but the night before, Eric checked out things to do in Macau and realised that we didn't change Macau currency so he said, it's alright we just drop by Macau on another trip la.
Since we weren't going to Macau already, we had to go somewhere today right? So, he googled up visit to the Big Buddha and to only realised that the Cable Car service is on halt cause they are servicing it. The other alternatives was to take a bus up and it's way cheaper!
Before we depart, we went to the Australian Diary Company, notorious for its long queue. No surprise at all cause the scramble egg were damn fcking good!
How to get there?
Take the MTR to Jordon and exit at C2, its about 2 junction ahead and you will defy see the queue.
Address: 47-49 Parkes Street, Jordon.
The queue was about 50 metres long but it only took us 15 - 20 mins to enter. Super duper fast and efficient!
Steamed milk pudding, their specialty
Both Eric and I enjoyed our meal here, love the macaroni in chicken soup served with Ham and the milk pudding was good too but cannot consume too much cause it becomes really 'jelak' after awhile.
My fav! The eggs! I even stole Eric's portion! LOL
Before we left, Eric bought this bottle of milk which cost HKD15, very thick the milk.
Ater breakkie, off we went to Tung Chung! The weather doesn't look very promising! =(
To get to Tung Chung station, we have to pass by Sunny Bay station. Sunny Bay connects you to Disneyland! OMG, i saw the Disney train! I was like "I can't wait already!"
Arrived at Tung Chung and saw Citygate outlet, it's a mall, almost like a factory outlet for branded goods.
The cable car service was really closed at the moment, so, we walked a little further to get to the bus stop!
Look out for this sign and this queue if the cable car isn't working:
Bus 23 takes you all the way up, easy peasy.
Queue was about 100 metres long but again it took about 20 mins only cause there were lotsa bus running at the same time. Return bus fare cost HKD 35 but if you were to take the cable car, it would cost HKD 133. Such a huge difference!
To be very frank, the ride up was a scary one. I am very particular about taking busses uphill cause of the many cases I have heard. The entire ride, I was grabbing only the railing damn tight. Some more the drivers wasn't helping at all, it was as if like he was drifting man!
Finally arrived after 30 mins of tight grabbing! LOL
Walked towards Tian Tan Big Buddha, didn't have to pay but me and Eric bought the ticket to enter the hall at the top and also we get free meal at the canteen. Each entrance cost HKD38, it was also like a donation to upkeep the place.
Off we went up a flight of stairs! LOL
Wahlao, super tiring sia. Exercise also no need la cause diff set of muscle being used, some more we had to rush cause it was about to rain.
A few steps away and it started drizzling, me and Ric quickly ran in!
We weren't allowed to take pictures in the hall but Sam wouldn't be Sam if she follows instructions. LOL
Anita Mui remains are placed here? Idk. lol
So cooling and breezy, love this pic la.
Ad: " Use Sunsilk and you will get beautiful flow hair!"
Heck, I don't even use Sunsilk lor. LOL
Trapped here for 30 mins, rain doesn't look like it was going to stop so, we had to make a run to the Po Lin Monastery.
The rain kinda stop when while we were running!
Po Lin Monastery is the place where a thousand buddha is place.
Pics not allowed but i secretly took them. So pretty lot, needa share!
Right next door is the canteen!
The food came with the entrance fee we paid.
Each of us given a plate of Bee Hoon, a bowl of Tau Fu Fa served with Ginger syrup and two sides.
Not sure if we were hungry or i generally love eating temple bee hoon la, tasted so so good. Like how my grandma used to cook them! <3
After eating, we left for the bus stop to go downtown again!
Walked around Citygate Outlet and bought myself a Nike sport pants. Cheaper than in Malaysia.
Was almost night time already by the time we arrived at Mongkok for dinner.
Tonight's menu is roast duck!
Sham Tseng Chan Kee Roasted Goose was the restaurant we visited!
Address: 427-427A Reclamation Street, Mong Kok
Dinner was so so so good! HKD60 for this plate of goodness!
Eric also enjoyed his! We came back here again on the 6th day for brunch. The skin of the goose was so crispy and you are supposed to dip it into the sweet and sour mandarin peel sauce! Oh gosh, so good. Bet Eric misses this too. :)
After dinner, we decided to walk back to Yau Ma Tei. The walkway from Mongkok and Yau Ma Tei is the usual route for us. We walked back and forth every single day you know!
Along the way, came across the egg roll, wanted to try it out and see what was he craze. Nothing fancy tbh but it's a famous snack in Hong Kong.
and of coz before we head home, we had to hop by the train station to top up our card.
Just look out for this machine in the station, it's super easy. Slot in card and slot in money and you are done!
To check your balance, look out for this machine below. Place your card on it and you will see your balance and the charges of your past tapped.
Everything in Hong Kong is so easy and convenient! I love it!
Total Damage: HKD840
Signing off,
Samantha Tew
